What’s Snappening?

Snapchat released a major app overhaul on Tuesday, March 29 unveiling new ways to connect quickly with friends. From now on, you won’t have to feel limited by 10 second snaps or single photo sharing options in chat. According to Snapchat’s blog, “Chat 1.0 was all about the joys of being here – when most apps told you when your friend was typing, Chat let you know that your friend was listening…We want Chat to be the best way to communicate – send only to hanging out face-to-face.” Let’s get into some of newest, most exciting updates we’re already obsessed with.

Stickers

There are over 200 new stickers available in your Chat tab. To send a sticker, click the unnamed-1 button, and scroll through to find the perfect one! That many stickers may be overwhelming. How are you supposed to find the right one to describe how you feel about that hilarious comment your Account Director made in this mornings meeting? Simple. Type “Funny” into chat, and any related stickers will appear from your search. (TechCrunch)

Video Chat

Snapchat is bringing it back to the good old days of basic cell phones and phone calls. With Snapchat 2.0, users can audio or video call friends, whether or not you’re already in an existing chat. Can’t accept a call coming in from a friend? Select ignore, and they’ll receive a “can’t talk right now” message, along with the option to leave a voice note. Want to call someone? Press the unnamed button, and wait for your friend at the other end to answer.

Video Notes

One of our favorite new Snapchat features in the Socialfly office is the Video Notes option. These GIF-like video messages are a maximum of 10-seconds long and play on a loop. To create and send a GIF of yourself, hold down the unnamed and record!

Auto-Advance Stories

While most of the updates are housed in the Chat tab, you’ll find a new feature added to your Stories as well. Now, all collections of photos and videos will play continuously in your feed after selecting one Story to watch. Users can tap to move on to the next video in a user’s Story, swipe to skip their Story completely, or pull down to exit Stories all together. (Forbes)

“What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating – just like you do in person. When that’s possible, …you’re just talking,” Snapchat said about their latest update.

Tell us which features you’re loving and which you can’t believe you ever lived without!
